This Sunday, 22nd March 2015 Wirral Egg Run Tribute Ride-Out

For more than 30 years now the Wirral Egg Run has been annual event involving a mass ride-out of anything up to 4,000 motorcyclists, and whilst it’s core purpose is to raise money for charities, this ride-out is has now developed into a tribute; a massive pat on the back to every single rider and participant who has over the years, made the Wirral Egg Run Tribute Ride-Out what it is today.

With the emergence of Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride over the past few years, charity ride-outs that also celebrate the passion, the great generosity and the spirited enthusiasm we all know and enjoy as motorcyclists, have become popular annual motorcycling events. The Wirral Egg Run Tribute Ride-Out though is probably the longest running and largest group ride-out in the UK.

Originally a gesture by local motorcyclists to cheer up sick children at the local Clatterbridge hospital with a mass delivery of Easter Eggs, over the years the emphasis of the Wirral Egg Run Tribute Ride-Out has evolved to raising hard cash for local charities rather than delivering Easter Eggs to sick children, although the egg thing still does happen.

Local rider Los Osgood sent Davida these photographs taken on the Wirral Egg Run in the mid 1980’s and they’re full of nostalgia, not only for the run but also of the celebrations which took place afterwards at The Empress Club on Victoria Road in New Brighton.

It will be interesting to see if anyone can recognise themselves, their friends and their bikes in these photographs or remembers the many local groups like The Empress MC, Snatch Grabbers MC or MYOB MC or Pete Bennetts Bike Shop ?

There is a big push to get more than 4,000 riders on the 2015 event, which starts as usual from The Dips on New Brighton Promenade, leaving at 11am sharp and ending 20-odd miles away at Claremount Farm. The whole route can be found on the official website of Wirral Egg Run Tribute Ride-Out. The chosen charities are Claire House Hospice, NW Air Ambulance & NW Blood Bikes, all have Just Giving Pages on Facebook for donations.

If you’ve got a Triumph in the garage in need of some fresh air this summer, the WTOMC have their annual event on 11th July at the Wheatsheaf Inn in Raby Mere
